CHRISTMAS
GIFTS
After a few years,
families grow. Instead of
buying a gift for every family (we never want to exchange names because
that's no fun) buy a gift for the entire family together.
It could be something for everyone to do, or just a gift card. I let each sibling know what store we'd like to do some
shopping at and we get gift cards to those stores!
It's perfect! Then you don't
have to pretend you like a gift, you can pick something out yourself.
And we always tell one sibling to go to a toy store so the kids can pick
out what they want.
As
Christmas gifts, I make a wreath for everyone. Wreaths can also be
bought at a dollar store as well as the ornaments to put on them. Get some
thin green string and tie each ornament onto the wreath.
Another
gift for those "odd" people on your list is to buy a few plain
colored mugs and then put some rub-on transfers on them. You can buy
them from most craft stores for pretty reasonable. Then you can fill cocoa
mix and mini marshmallows or different candies!
After
the holidays, this is when you should stock up on wrapping paper.
Buy only the solid colored paper so that you can use it year round for any
occasion.
Another
great Christmas gift is to make someone their own stocking.
Stockings can be found for a dollar at most stores. Fill them will all
sorts of little things; ornaments, candy, small toys, etc. You can also do
this for a family pet! Make it really special by adding their name to the
front.
Gift
baskets are great for that person you don't konw what to buy for. Find
a basket and fill it with anything; picture frames, socks, candles, candy, a
holiday mug or bowl, an ornament, etc.
Make
a throw pillow - these are easy!! All you need is 1 1/2 yards of
some type of fleece and either some batting or a pillow form. Cut the
material in half so that it fits around the form. Lay the 2 pieces on top
of each otheron the floor and cut in about 2 inches around all the edges every 1
inch. Then you can lay down the batting or form on the inside and tie the
two sides together in a double knot. You can also use this same idea to
make a blanket!
Make
your own homemade candy bars. You'll need a mini loaf tin for
this. Buy some chocolate, melt it and then pour it into the tins.
Let it harden. While they are hardening, wrap some tin foil around a piece
of cardboard. This is what you'll place them on. Once they're hard,
you can wrap them up in plastic wrap and then inside the tin foil. Tie a
beautiful ribbon around them and give as a gift. Who doesn't love
chocolate?!
Find
a sugar cookie recipes. Mix together all of the dry ingredients
into a canning jar. Put a piece of pretty material over top the flat piece
of the cover and then twist the top on tight. Print out the rest of the
ingredients and the recipe onto some pretty paper, punch a hole in it and tie it
on with some ribbon. You can also tie on a cute holiday cookie
cutter.
